Historical note: The First Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division was sent to Vietnam in 1965. It was the third United States Army unit to arrive. In December of 1967, the remainder of the division was deployed to Bien Hoa, South Vietnam in Operation Eagle Thrust. The 101st was the only army division ever airlifted directly into combat. In 1949 Ball was advisor to 11th Regiment, 1st ROK Division in Korea. Commanded 3rd Brigade, 7th Infantry Division in Korea during 1963. As colonel was Asst. Chief of Staff, G-1, 101st Airborne Division (1966). Was Deputy Chief of Staff of I Corps (1971). Attached to U.S. Army Combat Developments Command in 1973.
